The work of this exceptional Dutch artist has once again attracted attention, partly due to the sales results in our auctions over the past two years. Young artists recognise his visual language, and a new generation of collectors are eager to include his work in their collections.
The painting, one of the three works with which Hussem is represented in this auction, will be sold to benefit a fund of The Hague University of Applied Sciences, that will use the proceeds to commission a young artist to create a new work of art for consumers, students and teachers of The Hague university.
We are also offering two works, by Josef Albers and François Morellet, the proceeds of which will go to the Ambaum Haks Fonds/Rijksmuseum Fonds. (Lot 35, Lot 577).
An interesting collaboration in which the eventual buyers of the works will support the development of new visual art through their purchase from the Venduehuis.
Several portraits of Queen Beatrix by Andy Warhol, four of which are from the exclusively ‘Royal Series’, are another highlight in this auction (Lot 19 through Lot 22). Again, the current art market
shows that the appreciation for one of the greatest Pop Art artists continues to grow. It is expected that the ‘Diamond Dust’ copies in particular will generate an interesting return.
Among the three-dimensional works, the ‘Winged Figures’ by Lynn Chadwick (Lot 30) also deserve attention, as does the constructivist object by Joost Baljeu (Lot 45).
In our special online photography auction, which closes on Sunday October 24th, a large number of photos by both Dutch and international photographers will be offered. A large collection of photos by the Dutch photographer and choreographer Hans van Manen gives an idea of his extensive oeuvre. The work of Erwin Olaf and Paul Blanca will give many collectors motive to follow this auction and to expand their collection.

Last but not least, we would like to thank our outgoing director Peter Meefout, who made it possible for us to expand the Post/War & Contemporary Art department to its current level within five years. His vision and collegiality and the accompanying freedom we were allowed as a department have enabled us to make a professional contribution to the auction climate in the Netherlands.
We hope to expand this even further under the inspiring leadership of our future director Hans Huygens, whereby the position of the Venduehuis, not only as an auction house but also as a centre of knowledge, will be developed on a large scale.
